Woollen spun in Yorkshire and hand-dyed in small batches using plant dyes on a slow and small scale to create a rich and vibrant collection of colours.
The plant materials I use are sourced locally from plants that I grow, forage or import from sustainable sources. I use traditional historical dyes from plant materials including weld, woad, madder, sappanwood and logwood. I also use the plants that grow in abundance around me, including heather, furze, bracken, nettles and docks as well as materials on their way to the compost such as onion skins.
Producing a yarn that is sustainably dyed with minimal environmental impact, supporting independent suppliers and British mills.
Note on colours. Natural dyes are just that natural. Everything affects the colours achieved, from the amount of sunshine, season of harvest, rainfall, soil and water. Every small batch of yarn varies, even within the same dye bath. Each small batch of skeins unique and impossible to repeat exactly. When ordering this beautiful yarn please bear this in mind. Your skeins may vary a little from the images on the website due to these subtle variances in the dyes. But you will love them and they way they sing in different lights.
