Parcelling up orders ready to post this morning.

I like seeing the colour choices made, I get inspired by the combinations that I hadn't thought of.

Enjoying wrapping each one, it's important to me that it feels bit special when it arrives.

Hence the tissue and the boxes. But what's most important to me is that everything is as low impact as possible. Everything here will biodegrade after it's useful life and leave nothing for my grandchildren to worry about...not that I have grandchildren .... way too soon for that... 😁

Ive used the classic plant dyes, weld, woad madder as well as sappanwood and logwood. Thought we could use some bright and cheery shades. Hope you like the pallete.

Lovely blue purples. But the damn stuff goes forever. This is the third rinse... Ive been out in the dye kitchen for days, making the most of the sunshine and time. Yarn is nearly ready for launch. Very excited😁

Happy mother's day you mothers.

I got to spend mine playing in the workshop. Result!

This year's a weird one but it's been a perfect one. I have both boys at home - no longer boys but large hairy men. Things are about to get hard. Both me and Sean are self employed, Sean has asthma and we have decided that we will be staying at home now for the duration. So all jobs are on hold and income will be a bit fat 0. Good job living on little is our normal. Still that was by choice and not circumstance. Jackattack was a barman, casual labour no contract. So as of Friday no longer employed and no income. The Viking is a student. I don't want or need gifts. I've got something much better. one is cooking a feast, the other is in charge of the cleaning up. Both using their special skill set. And there's wines 🍷 🍷

I got to see what happens when you weave with The Norfolk Horn 4-ply. Its looking lovely. I quite like these danish medallions in woad blue. Will keep sampling and share the results as I go.

Taking some potatoes to Lallah.

Yes I found some potatoes!

Lallah has been ill since end of last year and was on the mend but has had to isolate. miserable! So I thought she might also enjoy a posie of spring flowers from the garden. The scent of hyacinths is beautiful!

Lallah is a very good weaver. If you've seen Little Women and like these red and lime plaid scarves, Lallah wove them. We were going to get together for some lessons but life has interrupted that. So I thought she might also like to see my efforts as well. Bit odd standing on the doorstep a respectful 3m away. But we managed.
It's good to see people taking notice of our oldies - can we keep this up after this is over. I would like that very much😀

I've been very pre-occupied with writing the book

I've been very pre-occupied with writing the book about the history of the Norfolk Horn. It's coming along in fits and starts.

I tend to get a bit focussed to the detriment of everything else. So it was a bit of a surprise to venture to the supermarket in search of something to eat to find there was nothing there. Where has all the pasta gone! For a moment I thought I had failed to notice the Zombie apocalypse. No, Woodie Harrelson was not going to save me...damn...it was just shameful human behaviour.

So it's been really positive to have a quick flick through posts to see the overwhelming warmth, compassion and care expressed.
I've adopted a few people who are self isolating. And will be making sure they have everything they need. The Viking is coming home tomorrow. so we will be a complete family again. But other than that life will go on as usual. I am fortunate in that I have space, live a quiet life and generally don't see many people.
My thoughts are with those of us that are and will be staying at home for the duration. So stay well and enjoy the unexpected free time to get focussed on that project you've been meaning to finish 😀

Mapping the Norfolk Horn and its place.
Its place was on the dry sandy heath's that run from the south, northwards and east in an arc following the north Norfolk coast and down to Norwich.
This is a sketch that I'm working on for the book about the Norfolk horn. I'm not an artist. Clearly. But sitting with a sketch book and some colouring pens has been really enjoyable. Hopefully the map puts across the message.

The book has been bubbling in the background for a couple of years. Taking time to do the research and adding little bits to the Norfolk's story. Time to pull it all together and get it finished.

With the sudden springness i HAD TO BE OUTSIDE 😁

The sun was shinining - yes, sunshine if you can believe it - and the PV was pumping out the watts so I wanted to get a woad vat up and running in the garden.

The woad indigo came from a very late cut last autumn. I was intrigued by something Jill Goodwin wrote about storing the indigo in solution once it's been extracted from the leaf. The liquid/indigo can then be reduced for dyeing at a later date. I did the extraction as per usual but decanted the liquid into some plastic containers. These have spent the winter outside the workshop. I kept meaning to move them into a shed and out of the weather but never got round to it. It got a couple of heavy frost's but no serious cold. It was a bit whiffy...no, actually it stank...glad I was outside. I think I can say that yes storing in solution is a very good method. The 10litres or so dyed 400g a lovely Boudicca blue and overdyed 300g pre dyed weld gorgeous greens. Yes it's Norfolk Horn, you need to ask?

Good to be dyeing again😁

Today I direct warped a rigid heddle all by myself😀

It was all that beautiful weaving by my colleagues at Norfolk Makers Festival that gave me a bit of an itch to play with colour on a loom.
So some more stash busting with the left overs from recent striped cardi. Not stripes this time but plaid.. sort of.

I warped it up randomly but with a weft 'grid' base of a foxy orange that should pop over the other more subtle colours. Maybe. This is unknown territory for me. Whilst I have a reasonable grasp of how colour works in knitting I have not the foggiest of what happens when it's thrown into weaving.
It must be all the disturbance in the force that's making me live fast and dangerous in the workshop 😁

Finished the stash busting cardigan.

It came together without too much frogging - which is always a bonus as I usually get to knit everything twice over before i'm happy - the perils of perfectionism and knitting without a pattern... Check out my buttonholes. I'm very chuffed with my buttonholes. Buttonholes always look a bit rubbish. Tried a new method where you make a double yo, knit into front and back of yo on next row (slipping one of the loops off needle), then k2tog and ssk on either side on next row. Neat. Not a saggy flappy pig's ear!
Most satisfactory 😀
